The Tohoku Shinkansen is available to Nasu Shiobara Station from Tokyo or Ueno Stations. Nasu Shiobara Station is the stop after Utsunomiya Station. (The train ride takes approximately one hour and 10 minutes from Tokyo Station).
BY JR TOHOKU HONSEN (LOCAL LINE)
It takes about three hours to Nasu Shiobara Station from Ueno Station in Tokyo via the Utsunomiya Line and local train. Keep in mind that the escalator and elevator access may not be as readily available for local transfers.
Afternoon pickups by ARI microbus will be available from Nasu Shiobara Station at 2:20 pm, 3:20 pm and 4:20 pm. In the event of late conference arrivals on Friday evening or Saturday, there is the option of taxi service to “Ajia Gakuin” for under 3,000 yen. The ride is no longer than 20 minutes.
A ride back to the station on Sunday is also available via ARI microbus.

Take the Tohoku Expressway, Exit 12. At the light, turn left. Continue straight for about 10 minutes until seeing signs for Route 4. Turn left onto Route 4. Go straight (pass a McDonald’s on the right) and keep going straight until a light shortly after the town limits. Look for a light with a blue sign that says Rice Line in katakana. Turn right. Continue straight and pass under the elevated train tracks. There is a narrow road on the right with a sign directing to ARI. Continue straight and climb a slight hill until the road empties onto ARI’s main campus. (People in the area refer to the campus as Ajia Gakuin.)
(The toll fee from Tokyo is 3, 780 yen on Friday and 2,930 yen on Sunday. In addition there is a Tokyo expressway toll of 1,000 yen.)
